MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Vineyard Youth Council is to provide opportunity for youth to develop citizenship, leadership, community service, an understanding of governmental operations and success in personal achievement.

GOALS

The Youth Town Council (YTC) Program Builds Youth By:
Serving in a leadership capacity v Accepting responsibility
Learning to work as a team
Learning how to plan an agenda, conduct a meeting, give reports, and be accountable for assignments
Developing self confidence through service

PURPOSES

Help youth appreciate and understand the role of government.
To help the Mayor and Council solve problems and accomplish the goals of the community.
Encourage youth and adult involvement in town meetings and activities.

ELIGIBILITY

Youth Town Council consists of five members – one Youth Mayor and four Committee Chairpersons. Requirements to serve on the YTC are as follows:

Must be a resident of the town for at least three months.
Must be between the ages of 12–18 and not yet a graduate of High School.
Must be at least in the 10th grade to serve as Mayor of Youth Council.

The Youth Mayor will be appointed by the Mayor and Council and will serve for a maximum of one (1) year. The Mayor and Council will also appoint all Committee Chairs.
