Who Must Obtain a Business License


All businesses within the boundaries of Vineyard must apply for a city-issued business license. This includes businesses operated from home, or home-based occupation businesses.

Municipal Code


The Vineyard Municipal Code states: Chapter 9-112. Business License Required. It shall be a class B misdemeanor for any person to transact, engage in or carry on any business, trade, profession, calling or to operate a vending, pin - ball or coin-operated machine without first receiving the class or type of license required by the city.

Please note that registering a business name with the State of Utah Department of Commerce does not license a business with Vineyard.


Purpose of Business Licensing


Business licensing enables the city to:
  • Collect its portion of sales tax revenues from the Utah State Tax Commission
  • Ensure public safety by enforcing building and fire codes
  • Maintain a list of currently licensed businesses for public access
  • Verify that businesses are in compliance with the Zoning Code and other laws and ordinances
